Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TNMT) (2 of 2 reviews today)

*chuckles* I sat in the theater watching the Turtles that my little sister adored while growing up. I couldn't believe it really, kinda nostalgic. I remembered my sister's "ninja moves" and how she wore a Halloween costume one year as one of the Turtles, but I don't remember which. . .but there I was, with my own kids, watching these green critters once more take on the evils of NY City. Was it a fun movie? Oh yes, it was. It brought back memories. *smiles*

The brothers reunite after a year and months of having been without Leo. He's been away training to be a better leader. They must banned together to fight and defeat a group of stone generals and nasty monsters that were cursed over 3000 years ago.

The artistry is superb and the dialog is just the way the turtles were in the 80's.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. . .Hero's in a half-shell. . .Turtle power. ;) Enjoy this film with your kids, and who knows, you may find yourself looking back and either saying. . .I remember so and so was my favorite, or I remember when my sister/brother did this. . .

Meet the Robinsons (1 of 2 Reviews today)

Meet the Robinsons. . .a sweet family movie. Lewis is an orphan who feels he has no family, no future, no life worth much, until he meets a boy from the future who takes him on a journey of self-discovery and friendship. Okay. . .Now, onto my more colorful reviews. *wink*

This movie had outstanding graphics, then again if you turn in a movie with shitty detail, then you suck as an artist, producer, or whatever they call those folks that put all of this together for us viewers.

This isn't a knee-slapping movie; it isn't a comedy. It is a touching film, with some funny parts, but mainly it is a deep moving story. You won't leave holding your side from laughing too hard. You won't leave the theater with wet cheeks from crying either. You'll probably leave feeling the same we did. . ."Oh isn't that sweet." That's not a bad thing mind you, it's a good thing.

This movie is available at some cinemas in 3-D. We didn't see it in 3-D, but I certainly would love to! I think that would be very cool. :D

Enjoy this film with your little ones, but there's no need to rent a child for it. ;) Wait for DVD, unless you want to see it 3-D, then I'd say 3-D all the way, big screen theater and a large popcorn at your side.

The Ultimate Gift

A very nice family movie. This is a PG movie and it is really very touching. A young man whose never had to work a day in his life is about to inherit a gift. . .several in fact, if he can complete the tasks set before him in his Grandfather's will.

This is just what I said in the first sentence. . .a very nice family movie. Sentimental and well played by several unknown actors/actresses and well known ones. For a nice, quiet day at the movies, enjoy "The Ultimate Gift." :-)

Ghost Rider. . .

It's been sometime since I have done a review and if you wish to know why, you'll have to click on the link over there>>>> "Essence of Red".

My spouse and I watched "Ghost Rider" with Nicholas Cage. First, Hubby liked it (incase my review doesn't sit well with the men folk and they want a man's opinion... ;). Now my review. . .

I thought the lines were cheesy and the acting lacked depth, character, and well coolness. The graphics however were very good. Nicholas Cage plays the hero from Marvel comics. After he makes a deal with the Devil, he goes on with life, tempting fate and trying (In my opinion) to off himself in as many ways as he can. . .yet is unsuccessful. . .but why!? (gasp) The Devil is looking out for him. . .*wink* *wink*

The story plays out with minions working under the Son of Hell in hopes to gain a contract of a thousand souls. Sam Elliot (YUMMY) I sooooo love Sam Elliot. . .*sighs wistfully and moans*

Sorry lost myself. Anyway... I would not run out and watch this at the theater, unless you are going for the effects. The acting is worthy of a DVD rental or a $7.50 special deal from Wal-Mart.

Zoom

Zoom. . .just ZOOM right past this movie, unless you have a 5 year old, maybe 8, 11 if your lucky. *sigh*

Tim Allen plays a washed up super hero and he should have stayed put. The acting is two-bit, the dialog poor, and the effects dismal. This was the movie my daughter, who is 11 wanted to see. Did she like it. Yes, but this is Red's Reviews, not Little Red's Reviews. ohhh wait, damn that is the title isn't it. . . okay this isn't Red's Red's Little Red Reviews.

I felt sorry for the young actors and actresses that looked up to the older men and women in this movie, the kids were smarter than the adults, thank god, or who knows if the world would have been saved!

They children are misfits, their parents give them up, we never see that happen, they just sorta show up (the kids - not the parents, they do at the end, so at we least we know they have some). . . They are "trained" by washed up Zoom and then work as a team to save the world, they could have saved me 11.00, but I do thank them for the time spent with my daughter, I just wish it had been in front of the silver screen watching Ant Bully.

Devil Wears Prada

Anne Hathaway and Merle Streep. . .two lovely ladies, who act their age in this teenie show.

The Devil Wears Prada was the movie I watched last Friday. I know I'm supposed to do the reviews as soon as I watch them, but I've been tired and worn out, for reasons why you'll have to go to this blog Essence of Red, because this is my movie review blog. :-D

Anyway. . .this is a chick flick, teenie bopper movie. This is NOT a guy film and barely is a grown up, adult female film. It is good. If you like Princess Diaries 1 and 2 as well as Ella Enchanted, Cinderella. . .you'll like this movie. My daughter is 12 and loved it.

Anne Hathaway plays a journalist that strives to make her place in as a Magazine's Editors Assistant. The question is how much is too much. From what I heard in the ladies room, after this movie was over, the book was better than the movie and they leave A LOT of stuff out, but since I didn't read the book. . . I don't know. For what I saw, it was your typical teen beat love story where the grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence, but in this case we're in New York, not Granddad's farm. ;-)

Click

Click was excellent. Two great movies at the Drive-In this weekend. Click takes Adam Sandler on a rollercoaster of emotions, from speeding through arguements, family dinners, job fiascos and eventually... he learns a few things about himself and the path he is on, that will set his and his families life down roads no one wishes to travel. Again... my kids watched this one with me and one of the most heart wrenching scenes even touches the heart of my son. Amazing work and if you like Jim Carrey in Truman Show... Sandler does that in Click. . .emotion from the heart in several scenes. . .though I'll admit... his crying needs some work. ;)

Monster House

Monster House...

This movie was great. I enjoyed it. The house is possessed by someone... or something... you'll have to watch and find out, but I'll let my kids' reaction to it be my review. My son is seven. The first 20 minutes he spent hiding under the dashboard of the van and on occasion would pop up just enough so his eyes could see the movie. (Drive-In theatre in my area)... He eventually made it back to the seat, where he teetered between curled up and scared to watching it openingly.

He voiced concern that he'd have a nightmare and I told him... he'd be okay, we were watching the second movie which wouldn't be scary and he'd forget about how frightened he was with Monster House... it worked. Also what set his mind at ease was reminding him he had seen the commercials for many of scariest parts of the movie. The "frights" start fast. My eldest, age 12, enjoyed it too, but she often analyzes movies as they flow, once she decided she wasn't going to "freak" out, she settled and enjoyed it as did the middle child, age 11.

I doubt I'll purchase this movie, but I am glad I watched it. It ha a Tim Burton feel, but it is done by Steven Spielberg and another person.

Nacho Libre

Nacho Libre. See the picture on the left? That is the best part about this movie. The scenery behind the man in tights. Hell a still shot of the man in tights Jack Black is better than the movie. The dirt in the picture that the actor is standing on is better than the movie. . .

Okay. I know this wasn't supposed to be a good movie. I mean come on. It has Jack Black in it. It is the story of a Monk that wants to be a wrestler. I started watching it. I really had every intention of watching it. I really did. What I did watch put me to sleep, thus the end of my review.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

Hmm. . . Did I like this movie? Yes, a little. Will I buy it? Yes after it has been out for a few years and goes on sale. Was I satisfied with it and recommend it to others . . .hmm. . .yes, but. . .<<< You knew that was coming didn't you.

I liked the acting. I thought it was well done. Johnny Depp comes back and plays Jack Sparrow again, just as seductive, naughty, crooked and smart ass, as he had last time.

The pirates are smarter than the Captain, just like before, but they are smart enough to let Depp upstage them, which is their job.

Davy Jones. . .ewwww. . .everything about him and his crew is yucky, but that is the way of the story. Right.

What didn't I like? The scene where Jack is thought to be a "God" ????? Maybe I was asleep or something, because that just kinda happened. One moment they were on the ship, next they are on an island, captured, men in cages, Jack a God, that is going to be eaten. . .I was like huh??? Did I disappear for a minute? My head buried in the sand??? So maybe I missed how they got to the island. I don't think so. I mean. . .I was at the drive-in and I never got out of the van. . . but maybe I was teleported during the time they made it to the island of Cannibals.

Any whooooo... the scene where Jack runs away from the natives. OMG . . it is so stupid. I don't remember if I laughed or not. I think I chuckled during the beginning of it, and then it got more silly, I just wanted the scene to end.

Everything seems rushed. They don't take the time to explain things. One minute you are here, the next your there. If you blink you'll miss where you were a minute ago and wonder where your map is so you can follow the sea. There is a guy in the movie painting a map. . .maybe we were supposed to read it, while watching the movie???

The end. . . OMG . . . I don't even want to tell you how I couldn't believe how they ended this flick. A sequeal??? Yes, we'll need one, but the way they filmed it, we'll have everyone back and happy in one minute and wonder how they got there the next.
